Yelapa?
 

We are considering 4 or 5 days in Yelapa this winter and would appreciate any feedback from recent visitors re: accomodations, food, the beach (is it swimmable) etc. THANKS

Wow, I don't want to be smart or anything, but I can't imagine 5 days there. Of course, I guess it was a hippie settlement where people came
and never left, but it is remote, peaceful, beautiful, but I would be
taking the one of the boats back to
Puerto Vallarta after 24 hours.

Many have probably taken a day trip there, and there is a "hotel/resort"
there, but I don't know how many who
post here have actually stayed there.
(I should say my info is from 2001...so
maybe there have been changes.)

I hope someone tells me that I am very
wrong!

i shouldve been a little clearer-
we arent looking for shopping, nightlife, cable tv, massage therapy, or frappucinos--we can get all that here in New York City. what i want to know
is whether there's decent food available, whether the locals are friendly/hospitable, whether the beach is clean and safe for swimming, how the rooms/staff rate at the local cabanas and whether there boatloads of obnoxious daytrippers from Puerto Vallarta drunkenly storming the beaches every day. thanks

When I was there a few years ago there was VERY little there.. Defintely no boatloads of anyone. Just a handful of people. We decide not to even spend the night, though it was very nice to visit briefly. This was about 5 years ago, so YMMV.

i don't think so. people go to Yelapa by water taxi from either Playa Los Muertos or Boca.

you might ask this question over on the message board at www.allvallarta.com it's very active with frequent visitors and some folks living in PV.

Locals in Puerto Vallarta are incredibly friendly and welcoming. I'm guessing this would be the same out at Yelapa.

There is a hotel there. It's on the north bank of the beach and up a small hill. There is also a restaurant on the beach but it doesn't serve too many items. Pollo and pescado and they run out of these quite fast as the daily ferry arrives with many beachgoers who leave at 3PM, they fill up the place fast after they have visited the water falls. There's 2 of those. One by wading a small wadi and the other is reachable by a long walk or by horse back. The only power is generator and if I remember correctly it gets turned off at 7 or 8PM.
The rooms are backed right onto the jungle so take deet and be sure to use the netting provided. There's millions of bugs.
Have a pleasant stay and be sure to visit the little town on the other side of the wadi.

Actually Yelapa has electricity now.
