Xpu-Ha Palace

Any experience with this hotel?

And about the beach?

Thanks

Nuno

If you are interested in an all-inclusive, I have heard nothing but good things about the Royal Hideaway.

I'd avoid Xpu Ha. I have seen Xpu Ha, and the whole complex is very large, garish and the beach is a very long walk from many of the buildings there.

It was built on a turtle nesting grounds, so there are also sometimes environmental demonstrators and signs, but I don't know how frequent that is.

So many much nicer places to stay...

nuno...you really have to look at the aerial views on locogringo.com. After you click on Xpu-Ha, use the northern arrows to navigate yourself up the beach. You can see the lay-out of Xpu-Ha Palace and everything else along the coast.

We stayed at Xpu Ha in Dec 03 and just loved it. The beach is great. There can be a lot of walking, depending on where your room is, and the rooms are different. Food is so so, staff are great. Check out

for tons of reviews.

I join the "XpuHa very good!" crowd. It is pretty incredible, one of a kind place - do stay there!
It is ecopark AND a lux resort in one, truly. The 2 story huts are very updated inside (appliances, Jacuzzis, etc) and offer beaut. views - jungle or ocean. Ask for cabin 3 if available -the view is mind-blowing (sea lagoon).

Here you'll have a saltwater rocky lagoon, a brackish water cenote - both excellent for snorkeling. Plus, there is amazing white powder sandy beach 3 min away from lagoons!~

We thought the food was better than most Palace resorts - we stayed at the ASP but spent much time at Xpu-Ha :)

It is huge - but that's the best of it! explore - besides, the golf carts are there, running back/forth every 2 minutes or so, to take you around - if you don't want to walk.

You will NOT like Xpu-Ha if:

You are extremely lazy and incapable of walking, ever, period
You want a place that swarms with unsupervised 5 yr olds running lose in packs
You prefer a beer guzzling, stuck-to-the-pool chair for a week crowd
You don't like snorkeling/breathtaking views/serenity
You want to be close to shopping, gambling, etc

Otherwise, it's worth a stay! or, if you prefer a bit more plush surrounding, stay at neighboring ASP (and spend many days at Xpu-Ha like we did).

BEACH at Xpu-Ha: Once again, powder, blinding turquoise, never crowded, fast drinks service, staff very friendly and sweet - games, floating devices/boards, etc. It's never very choppy, either - well protected from huge waves, UNLIKE most in Cancun.

Caution - if you snorkel in the brackish water pond/cave (cenote), which is so much fun), take care NOT to get any water in your mouth - don't even lick your lips after. Rinse off and wash face first - I'd gotten violently sick from inhaling a tiny amount of water there, later that night.... or was it the margaritas?? At any rate, don't do it :)
