Xcaret tips please
 

Anyone have advice for a day trip to Xcaret. We went a few year ago and loved it --especially the night stuff. Now we're growing with our family of 8 (ages 75-13) in mid-March.Is there a day of the week that is better than the rest? Should we book it once we get there? Is there a group rate you know of? Any advice would be much appreciated.

Since you've been there and done the night show already, I really can't offer much advice. Have you done the dinner with the night show? We really enjoyed it and thought it was a great value. Perfect view of the show, good food (three course meal)and, best of all, no lining up to wait for seats.

To get the best tables, reserve for that night first thing in the morning. We had a two day pass so did a morning/break at hotel afternoon/night one day and then another morning at the park the other day.

I would also like advice on planning a day/night at XCaret. What shows are a must-see in your opinion? What can we skip? What activites are best? I doubt we can get around to everything in one day/night, it looks like a lot to do. Also interested in whata day is least crowded, etc, as the OP asked.

We ended up just going to Xcaret after 3 pm. The wester horse show and the night time Mayan show were wonderful! I do wish we had eaten during the show.

We decided on the half day because of cost and because we did a half day tour of Tulum, (Ernie was a great guide), zipline and assorted amazing snorkeling experiences with Edventure tours. The snorkel in the cenotes, ocean and lagoon were, for us, a great replacement for the Xcaret water experiences. Our guide Sarah was terrific!

We had enough time with a 3:00 arrival to check out things at Xcaret and enjoy the show.

Thank you for the report misha2. Due to your report, I am considering that after 3 pm ticket option. I really don't want to pay for a full day (and also thought a full day might be too much for the two 18 yr old girls who will be w/us) so had given up on the idea of Xcaret. But the late day/evening option is a god one for the price, and it will give us a nice evening out too with the show.

Misha2, were you able to get your tickets to Xcaret online beforehand? Their site is not letting me buy tickets for the post-3pm entry.

No. we ended buying them right over there. We hired Renee, the driver we found through Edventure to take us there and back. We were just a little late and missed a tour of some sort that started right at 3. We had enough time before the show to take a quick river cruise (so-so) walked through the area with the cemetery and made it to the show. The last time we were there we had a reasonable buffet dinner positioned to watch the Mexican horse show. This time the restaurant was a higher-priced buffet and we watched the show from around the fence. Most of the audience went from there to the Mayan show. The first half of the show was truly magnificent. After the intermission, it was still wonderful but felt a bit long at the end. We all felt that we really did not need a full day at Xcaret. Hope this helps.

Oh, so it was the horse show at which you could have had dinner. Thanks for clarifying that, as I thought it was the big Mayan show you were talking about re dinner.

Do you have to reserve the dinner ahead of time or just show up at the buffet?

Actually, you can have dinner at either one. An earlier post said it was great to have dinner during the Mayan show. They both seem pretty pricey, but the Mayan may be better. I believe there is a tour that starts right at 3. We missed it. We took a mini river cruise -- the cruise was not great and we rushed though to get to it. There seemed to be some interesting botanical exhibits. The cemetery was interesting. Since we were so late and so much has changed I don't know if I am the best person to answer your question. If we had to do it over, I might have tried to go to the tower that had a view of the entire park. I think you can get a map on-line that tells you more. Sorry I haven't been more helpful.
