Xcaret Info?

Does any one have any info on Xcaret? I am looking to dive or snorkel and I have heard xcaret has "cave" snorkeling and a great show? Can anyone confirm? When are the shows offered? How far is Xcaret from Cancun?

Xcaret is a water park around a cenote (which is an underground river).

It has the river, where you are given a floating device so you just relax and let the water take you down.

After the river float, you can just relax on the beach, have lunch, swim in the lagoon with some beautiful fish, or watch one of the many shows (horses, Yucatan Flyers, etc.).

There is a "swim with the dolphins", but since we don't approve of this, we skipped it.

The highlight of the park is the show. It's held inside the park around 8PM and is included in the entrance ticket price.

The first half of the show is based on the Mayan theme and the arrival of the Spaniards. The second part is based on the different music and dances of Mexico. You are given candles which you light and makes a wonderful atmosphere.

We weren't expecting such a good quality show and is well worth the park entrance fee.

Ana
We went to Xcaret a few years ago. We had put off going there on a couple of trips, but finally decided to see it. We were really pleasantly surprised. I agree that the evening show was a highlight. I think it was probably earlier than 8 PM - we were staying on Cozumel and had to catch a ferry back. It was definitely worth it.

I wouldn't chose Xcaret for the snorkeling - you'd be better off going to Cozumel for that or even down to Akumal on the coast.

Susan, thanks for your note. The show was over by 8 PM. They announced on the speakers that the tour buses, would be waiting till the end of the show.

We didn't take a tour or bus, but drove from Cancun, and it was well over 1 hrs. drive. We were staying at the Royal Caribbean.

Ana

The cave snorkeling is really not good if you are looking for fish. However, it is a very fun experience even without snorkeling. Plus, it will cost you $10 USD to rent equipment. They do have an optional excursion to a reef for $22 USD, which includes the snorkel equipment. Except for the night show, and cave swim, we were VERY disappointed. The grounds were beautiful, but the exhibits were unexciting, bland, and underwhelming.
Fred
