Would Aug be ok in Mexico or Hurrican Issues

We are planning a trip this year with another couple and we have the 2nd & 3d week of
August to play with... Don't recall Mexico having really bad hurrican season but
I could be wrong.

Has anyone traveled there in Aug?

Aurba is out..

thanks
Di

Gulf or Pacific? And yes, Mexico gets whacked by hurricanes all the time. That being said, the majority of hurricanes tend to hit in September/October when the waters are very warm.

The least prone areas are furthest south on the Pacific side. Yucatan and Baja are high risk areas.

When I was in Mexico in August '07 visiting the colonial cities and D.F., a hurricane hit the Yucatan. It didn't affect us, but I did meet people on the plane who had been evacuated from Cancun. Don't know the specific risk of a hurricane, but if you're not set on beaches, the mountains are a whole lot cooler that time of year!

Go a fair amount in August

the further south on the Pacific side the better

monitor www.weather2travel.com also www.travel.state.gov

stay flexible on booking.

Which side? Pacific coast isn't much troubled by hurricanes (Puerto Vallarta for example). That said August is HOT hot hot, humid, and the rainy season.

I was just going to post what our suze just posted. Hot, humid and rainy. Every person I have known that went to Mexico, referring to the Pacific side along the coast, has come home complaining constantly about the weather conditions and how the heat and humidity left them so limp and feeling ill although they had been warned in advance.

Fra Diavolo's comments about the mountains reminds me of how I would not be in Italy during August unless I am in the mountains.

No you should still GO to Mexico! But for coastal beach destinations winter months are when it's lovely (Nov thru May in PV is stellar).
