winter in argentina

Have 9 days in early August to explore Argentina. Would like to ski and horseback ride and wine tour. Any suggestions from experienced travelers would be welcome!

The primary wine region is in and around Mendoza. Wine tours are available to visit numerous wineries. There are several skiing areas nearby, but Las Lenas is the best.

Thanks for your reply. My hubby is a wine connoisseur (aka "snob!") and he's researching the wineries for me. I can't get a handle on the distances b/t Las Lenas and BA and the wineries. Is it driveable or should one fly from BA to those areas? Being from So Cal, we are used to long distance driving but 9 days is short. Thanks for any more info!

Don't know Las Lenas myself, but given that DD says it's nearby to the Mendoza wineries - you're looking at 600+ miles west of Buenos Aires, and we're not talking about expressways. The bus takes about 12 hours, figure driving isn't going to be a whole lot less.

thanks for that info. The winery people just told me it's about 4 hrs b/t the wineries and las lenas. My guess is we'll fly from BA to Mendoza and then drive b/t skiing and winetasting. Although, maybe we won't make it to the slopes after all that tasty vino!
