Puerto Vallarta Airport Ground Transportation

Hi Everyone.

Could anyone tell me if it's possible to take public transportation i.e., a bus, from the Puerto Vallarta airport to the Marina district? If so, could you provide me the the details please? Also, how difficult would it be for a non-Spanish speaker to do this?

Thanks in advance.

You need to leave the airport on foot and go out to the highway that runs in front. But I believe you must now cross the new-ish pedestrian bridge to the far side, then cross back (i.e., to get to The Marina you want to be on the same side of the highway as the airport is on).

You'll see people waiting but there is not signage at most bus stops. The cost was 4 peso (a couple years back when I did this) and I'd suggest having exact change. You pay the bus driver he gives you a ticket.

It is not difficult at all without speaking Spanish, but how much luggage will you have? I did it with one small duffle bag, and that was about as much as I think is reasonable to handle easily.

The busses can be crowded but are used regularly by both tourists and locals.

The Marina is not far and you might want to spring for a taxi instead for this one ride. They are regulated from the airport and you buy a ticket from the taxi window clearly marked near the exit doors, then will be pointed outside to tha driver. I don't imagine it's more than ~$7USD to The Marina. Anyone else know the price for certain?

An in-between option is to exit the airport on foot and catch a local taxi (yellow). The ones that leave from the airport are "regulated" (white) and they are the only ones allowed to pick up from within airport property.

This used to be quite a bit cheaper, but lately the town cabs have caught on and raised their rates to closer to what you'd pay from within the airport.

Rule of thumb is that your ride back to the airport (yellow taxi) will be about 1/2 the price as your ride out of the airport (white taxi).

The busses are a great way to get around but I usually wait until I'm doing so without a suitcase in tow. Besides your fare, have some very small change handy because sometimes people get on the bus and serenade everyone, then walk the aisle for donations. I wasn't sure what to do the first time this happened, but all the locals gave a small amount to the singer, so I do as well.

Have fun!
