whitewater rafting

Are there any rivers in Costa Rica where there is class IV water? If yes, what time of the year, and what stretch of the river(s)?

If no class IV, what is the best river with Class III?

Thank you,

Dennis

Hands down, Rio Pacuare, Class III and IV.

The Pacuare is a blast and according to the local river guides and guidebooks, it is by far the best rafting river in Costa Rica. Water levels in October and November are very good. The day trips all take you on the same 18-mile stretch. The 2-day trips include a little more. I believe they still offer "expect" Level V plus on the upper portion, but I'm not sure. Maybe it's not open to the public and is only for competitions, etc. I've only heard heard about it from the river guides. Not sure what the best spring or summer months are but one would think when the rains return, they have decent water levels again. I would say October, when the Pacuare first opens for the season, would be your best ride.

Pacuare is a beautiful river, but if you want to get an adrenaline fix, you must do the Reventazon, where you will find class 3 and 4.
