Which Playa Del Carmen resort has the nicest grounds?
 

I'm reposting becasue my original had typos in the title! Sorry.

This would include nice sandy beach, lush vegetation, attractive landscaping, and good architecture. I am interested in AI resorts that are not adult only and are very near Playa Del Carmen. We've been to Barcelo Maya (prefer to be clsoer to town) and Royal Meava (which is now called something else, I think Gala).

How about the Iberostar Tucan. It's very lush and close to Playa Del Carmen.

The Iberostar Tucan I think was right next to the Royal Meava. It gets great reviews on Tripadvisor as well. Is the Iberostar Quetzal the same property?

Any others? It's been years since I've been in that location.

I'm not expecting fine dining at an AI, just decent but I would like above average surroundings. I don't mind a little walking either to get around the property if it's is spread out. We live in the city and walk almost everywhere, so we're used to that.

Are there any other towns in the area similar to PDC, that have resort within walking distance? I was not impressed with Puerta Adventuras (kind of a pre-fab tourist town).

After the hurricane none of the area will have lush vegetation. Iberostar Quetzal/Tucan used to be lush but the trees are quite naked now. Lots of kids at Iberostar I rmember reading about all of the activities the Kids Club does. Tucan and Quetzal are the same property but there is a limit to the size of a hotel in Playa del Carmen, so they are separate on paper but are in fact mirror images of each other and share dining facilities in the middle.

Too bad about the hurricane damage. I was wondering how affected they were there.

I don't really care one way or another about kids activities because my kids out-aged them (15 & 17). My kids tend to hang with each other, but it's nice have similarly aged kids there as well.

I guess given the recent hurricane situation, lush vegetation is hard to come by in the area. We won't be going until next Dec, so hopefully by then it will begin to bounce back.

I will be visiting the tucan again in April. It was amazing when I was there last yr. So much that my husband and I are bringing 5 of our friends there. The staff, grounds, food, location was unbelievable!!!! The beach was breathtaking. There will probably be some bare trees still but it won't matter. Actually the beach is much wider from all the pics Ive seen. I cannot wait to get back.

I was at the IB Del Mar this Christmas. They have replanted most of the vegetation. The tops of the palm trees show the damage, but the grounds are still beautiful. By next December you won't even know a storm went through.
