Glover's is only a budget option if you can sail out on Sunday morning and back on Saturday; the mid week boats are $350. You're right, it's tough to eliminate anything but fewer stops usually means a richer, less stressful experience imo. already looking forward to your trip report!

I have several friends who stay at Ruby's when they come to San Pedro. Some of the rooms even have small balconies. I've heard some people complain of noise, Ruby's Deli opens early in the am. I'm guessing the beach side will be cheaper than the street side.
I have other friends who hated Ruby's and moved to Spindrift, a slightly more expensive hotel on the beach, only a couple blocks away. |
I think Ruby's is pretty close to Wild Mango's.

Thanks hope -- I don't think that will work for us this trip, but thanks for all your advice! Don't hold your breath for trip report though...still a long ways away but getting a better idea of how much $ to save.
Jean -- I've been reading all the TA posts about Ruby's as well as some of your replies over the past year on TA. I will look at Spindrift, but there's something about Ruby's that seems right besides the fact the diff in cost between Ruby's and Ramon's will pay for our tours and meals! Why do you think street side would be more expensive? Wouldn't the ocean view seem better. I will definitely be booking ahead and asking for a 3rd floor with balcony, not waiting until walking in, even though it will be low season. vgirl -- I think so too. I've been looking at maps and stuff in guidebooks and on-line. Close to lots of restaurants including Blue Water Grill that's also supposed to be good. |
I guess I should learn to proof read what I write. What I meant to say was that street side would be noisier. Sorry about that.
I wouldn't hesitate to stay at Ruby's. They even have some lounge chairs on the beach. A nice veranda for guests to hang out on as well. The cinnamon rolls are really good in the deli too.... |
Thanks Jean. I know you walk by there a lot so that's comforting to know.
