Hi! We are planning in advance about our vacation to Playa Del Carmen area. Not going until winter- February. Anyways there will be three of us, one a senior. She can't walk too far. One resort we are looking at is the Porto Real. Is this one of the closest to the town of Playa Del Carmen? Any other suggestions? Are the taxi's expensive or do you negotiate with them? Thanks for your help!

The Porto Real is the only al that is actually in Playa del Carmen. The ones that are listed as Playacar are close. I believe the RIU Palace is the next closet, but not 100% sure about that. Taxis are not expensive. Three people can take a taxi almost anywhere for $1 or $2. You should not have to negotiate, but I would definitely get a quote before hopping in that taxi-some of the drivers will try and see how much they can get by with.

Just got back and walked a lot. Yes, Gran Porto Real is the closest, but you will not be able to walk from the other all-inclusives, it is just too far. It was a $5 cab ride from Playacar into town. Be aware though, that the beach at Gran Porto Real is really eroded, you have to walk a little bit North on the beach to find a nicer section.

Puerto Real is the closest resort north of town, Fishermans Village is the closet resort south of town (they used to be Time share I think, but are turning into All-Inclusive rentals),followed by The Reef Club and Then Viva Azteca.<BR>With someone who can't walk far, Puerto Real would be best.

Hello, We have a time share at Continental Plaza Playacar. It was the first resort built and is THE closest to town of the Playacar resorts. The beach is nice there (as of March 2002 anyways!) It takes about 10 minute walk to get to the beginning of 5th ave.
