Where to stay in Tulum
We will be in Tulum for a couple days, and want to stay somewhere on the beach. We want something rustic, yet elegant, and it must be affordable. No more than about $50 a night. Can anyone recommend anywhere that fits these wants? Of course we are willing to budge a little...Thanks!

You will get something rustic for $50/night, but definately not elegant. Has anything caught your eye yet? You would have to budge to about $100/night for elegance - La Conchita, Ana y Jose, Mezzanine, etc.

$50 a night is really pushing it. I believe there are campgrounds along the beach road that would be under $50. We looked at Cabanas Tulum while poking around, they were clean and simple cement motel rooms right on a nice beach. I think they were about $65 a night.

After cruising through tripadvisor, it hit me...you should stay at Shambala Petit - I think it's exactly what you are looking for.

Thanks for the ideas. Shambala Petite looks great. I just emailed them to see what their rates are. We may just have to splurge during our couple days in Tulum and spend a little extra money for something extraordinary.

we just returned from this area in early April. We (two couples late 50s) booked rooms at Villa Tulum. It's on the road to the beach (a LONG walk--but quick taxi). The rooms are "spartan"--but comfortable. We got the b&b rate--resto on premises. We rented a car--but you could to it without and just use public transpo/taxis. Recommend Paraiso Beach Club--they were excellent!
