Where to stay in Tamarindo?
 

My friends and I are graduating from Highschool and we're planning a surf trip. 12 of us are heading to Tamarindo, Costa Rica, and we'd like to stay in cabinas or quaint hotel on or very close to the beach. Have any suggestions or advice?

We just got back from Playa Langosta. I wouldn't call it quaint, but it is right on the beach where a lot of surfers congregated. The rip tide is VERY strong so be aware. Just down the road from Langosta, there were several cabins and such that seemed geared for the surfers. Sorry, I don't know their names though.

Pick up the "Lonely Planet" guide to CR at a bookstore on online, it's one of the best. Some of the best surf is both north (Playa Grande) and south (Playa Negra, Playa Avellana) of Tamarindo. There are lots of places to stay in Tama, fewer at the other spots. Try booking at least one nite in Tama, then get the lay of the land and head out from there to find the best place for you. Some of the best surf I saw was at Playa Negra but there was only one peak so of course it could get crowded. <BR>Good luck, you'll have fun!

I stayed at Capt. Suizo and recommend it highly!!!!! You will love Tamarindo.<BR>If you are intrested there was a cool looking camp ground a few doors up right on the beach I think it was called "titos" looked like a hot spot if you are into camping. Good luck and enjoy. Any ? e-mail. :o)

Try Hotel Pasatiempo in Tamarindo. We are surfers and have stayed there several times. Ron, the owner is a lot of fun, and is used to seeing surfers and helping them. He's even driven us to various 'off the path' surf breaks. As part of a group of females, I have found him to also be protective of his women guests, which would be good for a group of young girls. I too reccomend Pasatiempo. Went there last year and I'm going again tomorrow. It's about a 5 minute walk to the beach but well worth it. It's got some of the best food in town! And Ron is amazing. Very great host. Have fun!

michelle-<BR>we in cr in 1999. spent some time in tamarindo. there is a Days Inn there that was really cute. not fancy but had a nice pool with a swim up bar and was across the street from the beach. we met the couple who own it and they are from u.s. also. i think they are on the web.

Stay at Hotel Pasatiempo. It is only $65.00 a night and is a great place. Ron is so fun and they have a great bar and pool.. The cabana's are one room with a big bed and a huge bathroom. There is a patio with chairs and hammock. It;s all you need for the money and it's really fun. Caption Suizo isreally necr, but more money and not really a surfer place. Good Luck.
