Where to stay for our extra day in Costa Rica!

We just found out that we have an extra day on our 10 day honeymoon to Costa Rica this July. We have decided to add a day either in Puerto Viejo at Banana Azul or an extra day at Pacuare Lodge. Looking to see what everyone thinks would be a better idea. We are a little worried if we get down there and its raining every day about staying an extra day at Pacuare lodge since we will be limited to what you can do in the rain. And I feel like there is definitely more to do in Puerto Viejo. Just can't decide! Thanks for any help!

I've always wanted to stay at Pacuare Lodge, so I'm jealous. If it's raining, can't you just lie around and gaze at each other since you're on your honeymoon?! Maybe get a massage? I know they offer some on site activities.

volcanogirl

They are on their honeymoon.

They do not need a masage at the site...but rather they can

gaze at each other and give each other a massage.

Guess I am just too romantic :)

Hi how are you ?

Good idea, P! I'm going great - how are you?

Seven, what do you plan on doing in Puerto Viejo?

Lots more going on at bananaazul.com
personally would go for that.
Albylodge.com in Cahuita is nice
if you want to do some diving/snorkel at the underwater park.
Le Chameleonmost HM worthy property over there.
weather2travel.com expect daily afternoon rain on Carib side
Last Aug/July when I was there last it rained A LOT.

Congrats!

We were in Tortuguero in July, and it poured - tons of drenching rain. I think PV stays a little drier though, but I'd still pack a book just in case.

Thanks for all the replies! We are planning on rain in Tortuguero, well aware that its rainy season but we're hoping to get to see some of the turtle nesting since it starts in July. Only 2 nights there.

We decided to stay an extra day in PV just because there is more to do (and its WAY cheaper than an extra night at the lodge). We're going to the Jaguar rescue and then a couple of planned hikes. The lodge is going to be amazing no doubt, but you are limited to doing the activities they provide. We'll be rafting in and zip lining there and a hike. Its just cheaper to spend an extra day in PV and we can do more and save money. (we're paying for our own honeymoon) Made more sense to get an extra day in Costa Rica than cut back just to stay at the lodge. We're still getting 3 days at the lodge.

In planning this trip I planned enough to stay for a month haha! So we're doing the Caribbean side this trip and we'll plan another trip to do the rest! Can't wait to leave, July is going to take forever!

We did see turtles when we went in July despite the rain. I hope you get to see them. It's really cool. Good luck!

SevenLeagueBoots Mar 25th, 2012 01:30 PM

Oh I hope we get to see them, when in July did you go volcanogirl? We're going at the end of July.

volcanogirl Mar 25th, 2012 02:15 PM

We went at the beginning of July, so I think you'd have even better luck than we did. We were there at the very beginning of the season, and they said it goes until October. Just a heads up - they ask you to wear dark clothes, black if possible, when you go see the turtles, so they don't get confused. So if you have something dark, I'd pack it.
