Where to stay enroute to Arenal?

We arrive in San Jose at 2pm and want to spend the first night at a nice hotel in a picturesque setting somewhere on the way to Arenal. Suggestions are appreciated.

Peace Lodge, is the first to come to mind. About an hour from the airport. Never driven from there to Arenal, but others report about 2-3 hours.

Peace Lodge would be perfect. It is a lovely hotel, spectacular grounds, and a very nice drive to Arenal- about 2.5 hours on a good scenic route.
Enjoy

I've read about Peace Lodge and it sounds wonderful. Does it take us out of the way, though? Don't want to add on too much driving time. What about Vista Del Valle?

Hi Mary,
It really is not out of the way- it is a tremendous destination. It took us 45 minutes from Tri-Color car rental. It is very beautifull.
The drive from PL to Arenal was the easiest drive we did in CR.
As far as Vista del Calle do a word search on this forum and I think you will find some good info.
Good Luck!
