Where to Saty in Ambergris
What are people's reccomendations about where tp stay in Ambergris? It seems like Victoria House and Portofino are two I've seen mentioned a lot. We are thinking of spending some time at Chaa Creek..prob 2-3 nights and then will travel to Ambergris to dive, relax, and enjoy! Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Not sure of the ages in your party, but we (kids 9 & 13) spent 3 nts at Chaa Creek (wished we'd stayed 4) & 7 nts at Banyan Bay on Ambergris Caye. We loved Chaa Creek & liked Banyan Bay. Banyan Bay has a very nice pool, beach, & on-site dive shop / pickup. Enjoy!

Banyan Bay is great if you have kids, since the units are two bedroom condos.
Before you decide on a place to stay on Ambergris, you should decide if you want to be in/close to town or more secluded. The northern part of the island is lovely, it's also somewhat isolated. Great for some people, a hassle for others. Depending how far north you go, and how much it's been raining, your transportation options to and from your hotel will be by water, either the commercial water taxi, or trips supplied by your hotel. Portofino is north of town by several miles. Also up there is Mata Chica, which gets excellent reviews. Also lots of villa rentals available. Victoria House is a couple miles south of town. It's quiet there, but you have the advantage of being able to get a regular cab to get to town, or walk, or bike, or rent a golf cart. There are also houses and condo rentals south of town as well. The 'new kid on the block' and right in town is the Phoenix. It's a beautiful condo property. The pool is lovely, and I hear good things about the restaurant. There are loads of other places to stay if you want something a bit more moderate in price. |
Las Terrazas in San Pedro is a nice place to stay. It has a private beach, a swimming pool and a marina where boats can take you for day trips to the barrier reef. It is near a lot of beaches and restaurants, which commonly serve yummy fresh sea food. There are other nice places to stay, better look it up at Expedia because they often have trip promos that can really cut the prices down.
Have a nice trip! http://online-tourist.blogspot.com/ |
