What's next in Mexico??

We're looking for a warm weather escape for early December timeframe. We've interested in Mexican culture, Mexican foods (not Americanized-Mexican foods), architecture, history. We're not interested in a beach only vacation; so places like PV, Mazalan, Cabo, Cancun, etc. don't hold much interest for us. We've been to Oaxaca and the interior of the Yucatan (Merida, Chichen, Uxmal) and absolutely loved those. What's another place in Mexico that would be of interest to folks like us? Thx for all suggestions, info, etc.

How about a swing through some of the colonial highland silver mining towns? Guanajuato, San Miguel de Allende, Queretaro, Zacatecas, etc. Lots of colonial ere history around there, and not that many tourists.

Could also be time for a Mexico City getaway. There's just SOOOO many great cultural sights in the capital that a person could easily fill as much time as your schedule allows, plus it's fairly easy to land an affordable hotel deal in the city.

Just a couple ideas...

Here's another idea. How about doing a trip with a theme, or maybe doing some kind of cultural activity. I've seen quite a lot of gourmet cooking or culinary appreciation trips popping up, and some of 'em look pretty darn reasonable, often including a week in the kitchen with a well-known chef. A couple of recent Marilyn Tausend trips have been accompanied by Rick Bayless, one of the most well-known Mexican cookbook authors in the U.S. Lots of potential for the gourmand...here's a couple URLs that look promising...

The state of Michoacan with it's many sights & marvelous cites is a good choice. Patzcuaro , Uruapan & Morelia are all worth several days. National parks, Festivals, handsome friendly people, architecture. volcanoes. ruins you name it. Maicoacan has it all.
PS in Mountain area will/can be rather chilly in the evenings.
