What would make a good Monday in Buenos Aires?

We are planning our BA trip for later this month. We arrive on a Saturday and are staying in Las Canitas (near Palermo if not exactly in it). We have plans for Saturday (just walk around Palermo and maybe do the MALBA) and for Sunday (San Telmo) but we are struggling a bit with Monday as it seems that is the museum "closed" day everywhere. We were looking forward to a chance to learn more about Argentina and its history or art before we are in Mendoza and Salta after BA. (We will be back in BA later in the trip for a Thursday, Friday, Saturday.) Any thoughts? Bike tour? Football game? Private guide?

Consider:

Go to Tigre? Do some research about it?

No soccer on Mondays.

The Museo de Arte Español Enrique Larreta, in Belgrano, seems to be open on Mondays, according to their website (confirm by phone, JIC):

Have a great time in our country.

Thanks. On that same museum website I found two other museums open on Mondays:

I very much like the Larreta museum, never been to the other ones.

The Fernández Blanco is also good, but closes on Mondays.

You could go to the Fernández Blanco on Sunday, after San Telmo.

It's on the way back to Las Cañitas.

Purely a matter of opinion here, but we think the MALBA is not worth a very long visit..it is not that big .. you can definitely go to the Belle Artes Museum in Recoleta..not that far from the MALBA in the same day.
Actually, the Belle Artes is the one that deserves hours but if you only see the ground floor, you will enjoy it.
And it is right across the street from wonderful parks and the Recoleta Feria which goes on all weekend.

The architecture is the best art found at the MALBA in my opinion. It is a beautiful, aesthetically pleasing building. I have toured the on my own and with an art historian. The tour with the historian was wonderful...I don't get modern art on my own...but when someone can tell me what the artist is trying to say and connect it to events and ideas of the time...I walk away with a much deeper appreciation.....

Like Scarlett, I still prefer the Bellas Artes museum although it is largely made up of European not Latin American art....

dr dawggy,
They have redone the Belle Artes and the top floor of the museum is all Latin American art...wonderful..we still have not made it through the entire collection :)
