What to Pack

Does anyone have a great packing list for 10 days in CR, man and woman.

Not going anywhere fancy so casual all the way.

Thanks

Depends on where you're going - are you going to the beach, the cloud forest? Temps and weather vary widely depending on the area. We always bring capri pants, shorts, t-shirts, a long-sleeved shirt, a jacket, a rain poncho, bathing suit, waterproof shoes, undies, socks, running shoes, a camera, and binoculars. We've had temps in the 60s and temps in the 90s, so I pack according to the area, but that gives you a general idea. If you take flights on Sansa or Nature Air, they'll limit the weight of the luggage you can bring.

My CA packing list is #14 in the FAQ thread on the Thorntree forum:

My best advice is to pack really light - just a loosely-filled carry on bag each.

Happy trails!

I like Hope's list a great deal. Packing light makes things ever-so-much easier. You can usually purchase anything you've forgotten. I just rechecked your list, hope, and adding a flattened half-roll of toilet paper to my bag - right in time for my Thailand trip. Now why didn't I think of that?!

Make sure you bring a decent flashlight. A Swiss Army Knife is also very handy.

We also bring a head lamp; sometimes we just carry it by hand, and sometimes we wear it if we want our hands to be free. REI is a good place to shop. Mosquito repellent comes in handy as well.

Swiss Army Knives are handy - I carry one in my purse when I'm not traveling - but taking one would mean you'd have to check a bag, which I try to avoid. Some people prefer flashlights but once you've tried a good quality head lamp for travel you rarely go back - so nice to have your hands free and they generally have multiple brightness settings so they make good reading lights, too.
