What to pack??
 
My boyfriend and I are leaving in 2 weeks for CR! I'm trying to figure out what we will need to pack and things that are must takes. We are going to Arenal and then to Santa Teresa/Mal Pais. What are some items that I shouldn't forget??

-Do I need alot of long sleeve shirts for night time?
-What is the best type of bug spray that we should get?
-What type (and where) should we get an international calling card?

Definitely have a pocket flashlight for each of you; such as Maglites. Many areas are not well light at night and power outages are not unknown.

If you will be flying while in Costa Rica, make sure your luggage and carry on weighs less than 25 pounds for each person.

Take a light windbreaker for rainy days or nights at higher elevations. Otherwise, shorts, sandals and t-shirts are fine. Light running shoes are ok for most hikes. In general, its hot and steamy at the beach, cooler inland. It can rain most anytime but usually never long or heavy enough to disrupt your plans, its always a warm rain. Always take a hat. Bug spray, I dont know; some you rub on are pretty good. I always needed some for my feet and ankles. I think buy the calling card down there. Good luck and have fun!

We were in Costa Rica over Christmas and found that because of the humidity things didn't dry out if they got wet. We found ourselves avoiding our cotton shorts in favor of our cool max ones. I particularly liked the way the sport t-shirts with some type of wicking properties felt in the heat of the day. Also don't forget a hat for the sun. Sharon

Bring some hefty plastic bags for your clothes that get wet.

Also, I brought a few of those long pants that snap or zip into to shorts. I got those at REI.
