What to pack??

My boyfriend and I are leaving in 2 weeks for CR! I'm trying to figure out what we will need to pack and things that are must takes. We are going to Arenal and then to Santa Teresa/Mal Pais. What are some items that I shouldn't forget??

-Do I need alot of long sleeve shirts for night time?
-What is the best type of bug spray that we should get?
-What type (and where) should we get an international calling card?

I haven't been to CR but the packing list I've honed over multiple trips to other CA countries is #15 on the FAQ thread of the Thorntree Forum:

I recommend light-weight long sleeves/long pants for bug protection, esp. in the early morning and dusky hours. We had fabulous success with Sawyer's Time Release Deet, so that's my recommendation (it's a lotion, not a spray). I'd buy calling cards there unless you have access to internet phone at an internet place (usually MUCH cheaper).

I suggest not overpacking! I've got my Costa Rica packing down to one carry on...my fiance does the same now! You can get anything you forget at the local supers...bug spray, calling cards(just buy these there only $10 and easy to use). You won't believe how nice it is to travel light! I bring 4 pairs board shorts, 3 tank tops, 1 nice short sleeve button up shirt,2 pairs nicer shorts, hiking boots. We each have a small bag of toiletries that fit in our carry ons. I wear long pants and flip flops on the plane and we both carry a light jacket. That's all we ever need!
