What to bring for camping?

I want to make a trip in a month with camping in central America. This is my first camping, what will I take with me? Who has experience already?

Frankly, not recommended. Dedicated, safe campgrounds are rare in Central America, at least compared to the US and places I've camped in western Europe. There might be issues with personal security depending on the area but most certainly your stuff wouldn't be safe which means you'd not only be lugging way too much around on transition days but might need to keep it with you when exploring towns, cities, Maya sites, national parks, etc. or kiss it goodbye.

Cheap lodging is available in most areas of CA - better to pack really light (just a loosely-filled 40 liter pack to start) and plan to use hostels and homestays as bases for exploring each area. We can give more specific advice if you post where you plan to visit, how many nights you have, what interests you most, etc.

My photos with blog, travelogue, and review links on the main page of each collection (except the two 2017 trips - I'm behind!) are below in case you're interested - all my recommendations are embedded there. Happy trails!
