What time shoul we get to the airport in Belize?

I would like to hear from those who traveled lateley from Belize International airport. We will be arriving from Placencia and our flight to Houston departs at 4:30 pm. What time should we get to the airport? trying to figure out which flight to take from Placencia. When and where do we pay departure tax? How much is it?

I was last through the International Airport the middle of last month.

I'd say you do need to be there about two hours in advance.

The lines at American (which has its own terminal area) and Continental are long.

And your luggage is searched -- your luggage you are going to check -- before you get to check-in counter. Then you go through security and your carry-ons are checked. Then you go down to the departure lounge -- if you have any extra time you can browse the duty-free shops or have a last Belikin.

At least with American, you pay your US$20 (that's the non-resident fee, Belizeans pay a little less) departure tax as you are waiting in line to check in. An airline employee collects the money and gives you receipts. You can pay in US or Belize dollars -- cash only. In the past, I've usually paid at the check-in counter.

--Lan Sluder
www.belizefirst.com

Thank you for such a great help. Do you know if there is a separate line for Continental's Elite/First & Business Class?

Sorry, I don't recall if there is a separate line. But I wouldn't count on it.

--Lan Sluder

I just went through there yesterday on Continental. After you check in you step over to another counter in the same area where you pay your departure tax (US$20) and receive a receipt. Prior to entering the departure lounge you show your receipt to a person stationed just before the security checkpoint.

While getting off the plane in Belize, we were told to check in for the return flight 2 hours prior to departure.
