What school supplies should I bring to donate?
I wanted to bring a backpack of school supplies. What items are needed most? Thanks in advance to all of the helpful folks that frequent this space.

You don't say where you're going so I'll just tell you what we took on trips to Panama and Belize: lots of pencils and packages of writing paper, glue sticks, and colored pencils. We learned on a previous trip that crayons sometimes melt in steamy climates. Years ago we were asked to take toothbrushes when we made trips to Guatemala, but we were visiting orphanages specifically and asked ahead what they needed. Soccer balls make great gifts, too.

Do you have a contact at a school or orphanage? I know in Puerto Vallarta they have specific things they request (clothes more than supplies). Another thought is to make a donation to a local charity or church.
