What is your favorite activity in the Yucatan?
Hoping to hear what other's favorite activites are in the Yucatan. We may have some friends joing us that are a bit more active then we are; so we would like to know what are the options. We will visit Tulum, Coba and most likely take the Sian Ka'an tour. I thought that Tres Rios sounded very nice but their website says that they are closed until summer 2006. I was considering Aktun Chun but it sounds like the animals are kept in cages (and seem sad). We might go snorkeling in the lagoon at Akumal. Just wondered if there was something else that I am missing. Thank You, Gem |
Well the activity I enjoy most on the Yucatan is relaxing! But it sounds like your friends want a little more action. Tulum is a beautiful place, Akumal has a wonderful bay to snorkel in. Lots of "safe" sea life. Sea Turtles, rays and huge schools of fish. You might want to check out Xel-ha, it's a protected snorkeling reserve. Going to a small town and shopping is always a must and also sampling some of the local flavors!
Have fun, we're going in December! |
You may want to try www.alltournative.com. They have some great tours. We have done the No Hoch and the Pac Chen - both were great. Snorkeling in Akumal Bay and Yal Ku Lagoon (in Akumal) are good. If you go to Yal Ku - plan on either early in the AM or late in the afternoon to avoid the buses. The Fat Cat Catamaran tour based out of Puerto Aventuros (sp?) is a lot of fun too.

Chichen Itza is one of my favorite Mayan tours and ruins to see.

Everything everyone has mentioned is great fun. BUT have you ever thought of cave snorkeling. Try out DOS OCHOS. You will see it between Tulum and Playa Del Carmen on the right as you are heading towards Tulum. It is an 8 mile ride on a Jungle buggie, then down a hole in the ground about 20 feet on a ladder to an underground platform where you will don a wet suit. Then into the underground crystal clear (cold) river water and go snorkeling through stalagmites into another big cave area-- its awesome.
