What is Mazatlan like?

Can anyone tell me what Mazatlan is like? I really enjoyed Cabo (I like the drier, cooler air of the Pacific side of Mexico) and also like PV so I was thinking about Mazatlan. Are there any nice resorts there?
Thanks!

Cole, I use to go to Mazatland when I was in college and would never go back now that I am in my 30's so #1 depends on your age. I think it is very junky compared to cabo and PV. I would recommend Ixtapa/Zihua instead. Mazatland is still a primary college party zone.

I agree with Wendy, I would not return to Mazatlan . . . I have been to Acapulco and PV also and M is not in the same class, it's an older resort city, supposed to be great for fishing but it's not a pretty town and it's full of college kids (I think because it's cheaper than the other two).

I did stay in a nice and inexpensive hotel right across from the beach . . . Las Arenas (the Sands). It's recommended in Lonely Planet, our room was big, had two double beds, minibar, tv, nice balcony, great marble bath, all for about $15/night.

Have fun wherever you decide to go, Mexico is wonderful!
Sandy
