What are your Condo experiences in Playa del Carmen

We are thinking of renting a condo which is described as "at the north end near Coco Beach." What is the beach like there? We have only been to the beach at the RIU Palace and IB Tucan. Is it very busy with lots of families? We want a quiet place away from the fifth ave. noise and bustle. We did once stop at a public beach in town and it was so crowded and noisy I don't think there was room for another person.

I am kind of tired of the AIs-- we don't drink or eat enough to justify the expense and I thought a condo rental might be interesting. Please share your experiences.

If you are talking about Royal Palms, it is amazing! We have stayed there twice and just loved it. (Last trip was earlier this year.)

I like that area (we have stayed all over PDC) because is it quieter, yet still close to all of the action.

I think you'd be very happy up there based on what you mentioned.

I've rented there and also now own one there. I rented my through VRBO.com and had no problems at all. The north end is definitely quieter and nicer. I just got back last night and the weather was gorgeous. Fifth Ave at the north end is not noisy or bustling. It's more laid back with locals. Once you get north of Constitution the crowds dissipate.

The condo we are interested in is very new (opening in Dec.)and called Meridian. Do you, or anyone else, know it?

Yes, I do. I know someone who is buying in there.

colokid-- what do you know about the condos? Are they in a good location (quiet, near beach, etc.) I'd l ove some info before I decide to rent.

It is not easy to find a quiet place in Playa right now. The building during the daytime is spread around quite a bit. The north end is definitely quieter than the south end past Constitution. I meant to go and look at the Meridian this week and never did get there. It looks like a smaller condo complex with 36 units which is the same size complex as I just bought into. They've used nice quality materials and it is in the Coco Beach area which is the nicer beach in Playa. The north end is also quieter on 5th Ave without the crowds of 5th further south.
