West End Roatan

Friends have just invited me to Roatan the first week in April!! (I am so excited!!) Because it's Holy Week their hotel is fully booked. Could anyone offer advice for a hotel that's near the Paradise Hotel? I lived in Africa for 4 years & appreciate the simpler accomodations.. but would like to stay near my friends at the Paradise. Please Help!
Also, I plan to ferry over to Honduras & drive to Tegucigalpa for a few days. Any "must see" attractions that I can photograph along the route?
Can I buy a visa upon arrival into Roatan?

Thanks,
Clara

A few years ago I stayed at Bananarama on West Bay Beach. I'm not sure if this is near Paradise Hotel or not, but you could check it out. The website is http://www.bananaramadive.com/

Like most places on Roatan, it caters to divers, but you don't have to be a diver to stay there. It was pretty simple and fairly cheap if that matters.

Check out http://www.bayislandsdiver.com/ . I can't give 1st hand information as we stayed off the beaten path.

My big question is - Why Tegucigalpa? I haven't been there but have heard only unpleasant and down-right-dangerous things about it. It will be quite a long haul - seems like an awful lot to put yourself through for just a few days. Maybe I'm missing something...

On the other hand there are a lot of great options close at hand in the La Ceiba area and the western area of the country is gorgeous (IMO).

Whatever you decide, have a great trip. We'd love to hear about it when you get home.

Thanks for the quick feedback. I am a diver (my friends are not)but based on the beautiful reviews, I'd must do a few dives while there! Paradise Beach Hotel Villas is the complete name of their hotel. I considered Tegucigalpa because my friends work/live at the American Embassy there. (I may just fly back to the US after Roatan)

Lucky you! there are lots of places to stay on roatan - I would suggest you go and check out the postings around west end - i never got a visa for anywhere in CA and no one ever commented. As for Tegucigalpa - an absolute must is La Tigra cloud forest. I have traveled through central america and la Tigra was the nicest jungle ever. Teguc itself leaves a little to be desired, but i loved it nonetheless!
