Check into Sayulita, 45 minutes north of PV. We loved it. Small fishing village, 3 or 4 beach bar/restaurants, fresh seafood, reasonable prices, great beach, friendly people. It is just a few dirt streets & most accommodations on hillside with view & steps to the beach. We stayed at www.vrbo.com/vrbo/5108.htm in Casita #4. #1 & #4 are the ones with the view.

If you want no other gringos around, try Chimo just inside the southern point of Banderas Bay. An hour by water from Vallarta, but just a small fishing village where fishing is the only occupation. There are 2 rooms that I know of for overnight accommodation, e-mail me for more info.

Try the government sites in the Mexican State you will be traveling! Do a search say under Jalisco State and see what comes up-then go from there!

Dan,
How about some restaurant suggestions for Melaque(?)and La Manzanilla. We'll be at Tamarindo end of the month & want to investigate the villages around your area. Any recommendations for snokeling areas, other activities or great places to eat on the beach would be appreciated! Thanks

Just south of Puerto Villarata(sp) is a beautiful small town 'Rincon'. Really laid back and wonderful people.
