Wedding in argentina

I would like to ask you for some help.

I am invited to a wedding in Argentina, but I do not know the customs regarding presents.

I was thinking about giving the typical "envelope" with some US dollars in view of the problems with the economy (I am sure that the couple will love a bit of financial help in these terms)

What do you think it is an appropriate amount to give without looking arrogant (in other words, absolutely excessive and over-the-top)?

Thanks for your help in anticipation.

It depends on the relationship you have with the couple. If it is close, I suggest USD 250 aprox if you are not that close, USD 100 would be ok.
I would not recommend to give cash as
a wedding gift. I been in Argentina
several times and know there culture.
Unless the wedding is taking place in
a "villa miseria" the offer of "cash"
is not the best, even in post-devaluation
times.

I disagree with Jim. I know the people of Argentina are very proud...even in these difficult times but I'm sure they would appreciate cash. It is a very difficult time for many of them. $100 or $200 US goes a long way these days. Or at least a lot more than it used to. $200 US = 720 pesos. I know a girl that works like a dog all day 6 days a week. She only makes 500 pesos a month.

YES, definitely consider cash.

As Mary says the amount depends on the relationship with the couple but I don´t believe anybody will be offended. On the contrary, as the situation is so difficult here in Argentina, couples will sometimes have a gift list at some well known Bazar but it is also very common to have a wedding "list" at some travel agency so that friends can give them money for their honeymoon
