Wedding in Akumal

Help! I am looking at Akumal as a possible place to get married ... want a resort that would not be too big or too expensive for guest. And a private beach for the ceremony ... Any ideas???

I was in Akumal for a long weekend in January, I loved it. We rented a room in the Vista Del Mar Condos. The Condos were great for us, we were there to Scubal dive but I would not recommend the beach for a wedding. That said, Akumal is small and I don't recall seeing any resorts. If there are they are probably on Half Moon Bay which is a lovely beach. Try looking on http://www.locogringo.com/akumal/

The only resort in Akumal is Akumal Beach Resort (ABR) on the far south end of Akumal Bay. Does it have to be an AI? ABR is only about a 3 star place at best, was just there last month but the beach is 5 star. Over in front of Cannon House would be great, there are really no private beaches in Akumal.

If you don't want a resort, but want the resort setting try a house we stayed in called Casa Iguana. I think it's still on VRBO. Plenty of space for your guests, a pool, etc. They only drawback is that it's on an ironstone reef, not a beach. It's still a great view, though!

I wouldn't recomend Akumal for a wedding either....very, very crowded & built up when we were there. Pretty beach, but not wedding material IMHO. Try further south in Tulum. Beautiful expanse of beach. Many little spots to choose from, some places cater specifically to weddings.

I put a vote in for the Grand Palladium. It is about 10 minutes north of Akumal. Beautiful grounds, beach area, awesome food. It was one of our favorite destinations. We loved the location of the Grand Palladium as we could do day trips to Tulum, Akumal, Playa De Carmen. Check out this link for more info:

Happy planning!

I would contact Oscar Y Lalo's. They do our wedding on the beach and we had the reception at the restaurant until 3:00am. The restaurant is a very natural setting which has waterfalls, birds and a beautiful pond and garden across from the Beach. Virginia made a custom plate for my budget. The restaurant fits over 200 people. I got married last month at Soliman Bay, which is a private Beach owned by the original Oscar of Oscar y Lalos across from the restaurant. They have filmed many Corona commercials at the beach and did several food programs about Oscar y Lalo's in the states. The food is very good the host is excellent and the beach Soliman Bay is also known as paradise bay. We stayed in Soliman Bay they have private homes you could rent. Look up Oscar y Lalo on Google that is how I fond it. The numbers on the internet was always busy. So Virginia gave me her Cells USA 909) 395-7349 or Mexico 01152-1-984 133-7640 if you are calling from the states. Virginia speaks English and is a sweetheart. She will take care of you. Virginia took care of everything, music, priest, tours and entertainment for over 200 people. It was will worth the price. Oh Oscar y Lalo's is five minutes south of Akumal. I strongly recommend it. We had the time of our life. I felt as if I was on Fantasy Island:).

How about Tulum? Stunning beach. Here's a link to information about weddings there.

Ana y Jose is the most resort-y of them and they do many weddings.

Also Cabanas La Luna has had many.

Here's the info from bride:

Here's a wedding report [a few small pics] from a recent bride

I just got married in Akumal at the end of June, and contrary what another poster said, IT IS NOT crowded and built up AT ALL. If anything Akumal is one of the few places in the Riveria Maya that has yet to be turned into a "tourist" trap and rather remains a barely discovered jewel in the area. It's a beautiful quaint town that has some of the best beaches in the area, fantastic accommodations for any budget, lots of wonderful restaurants and amazing people. While Tulum is even more untouched, it has an extremely laid back feel to it, which is wonderful except when you are under pressure, have deadlines, and want certain things done pertaining to your wedding.

Here's a link to some photographs our photographers just posted on their blog of our wedding ~ you can see the photos here: http://stephaniewilliamsphotography....tommy-wedding/

We had a Mayan Wedding Ceremony on the private beach in front of the Las Casitas condos and then a private reception in the CEA Center. Our food was catered by Turtle Bay Cafe (excellent!!) and coordinated by the restaurant's owner Jenn Smith (she is a gem!!!) With close to 70 people in attendance we were able to do our wedding under budget and didn't have to cut any corners -- Jenn did a fabulous job working with us. We also rented the most fabulous villa right on Yal Ku Lagoon -- this was where we held our Welcome Dinner reception complete with a "taco man" and all-female mariachi band.

All in all, it was our dream wedding and I wouldn't have changed a thing* Akumal is the most wonderful place to have a wedding!!! If you have any questions, please feel free to send me a message or give me your email ~ I'd be happy to give you all the details!

I replied that Akumal was built up & crowded. For "me", it was....hardly a spot to put your towel, buildings lining the shore, boats everywhere.....

It was indeed a very, very pretty beach, but for what I am personally used to it is built up & crowded.

Hi MarieSam,

My good friend is getting married in Akumal next February, and I'm helping her find a mariachi band. Can you please send me the details? An all female band sounds fun!

My email is gwenlaura at gmail dot com!

Thanks!
