We are leaving tomorrow for Guatemala and I have one more question. Is it safe to leave our money/passports in the hotel safe? Or should we always carry our passports with us? Thanks

Carry a COPY of your passport with you. And have a terrific time! ;)

Thanks for your replies. I always bring copies of my passport and it's a good idea to use that for check in.I think that the places we are staying are probably alright but you just never know who is around. I have left my passport before with the owner of the hotel in their area and felt safe with that but I think I will keep in on my body in Guatemala.
Interesting to know what the street value is for a passport.It's more then I would have guessed.

also write down your credit cards numbers with their appropriate emergency numbers on to a sheet of paper...just in case
