Water temp. in March - Mayan Riviera?
 

We will be in the Akumal/Tulum area in March and am wondering about the water temp. during that time. We are pretty much warm weather people and not used to cold water. Am trying to decide whether or not to take a wet suit along for snorkeling?

When I was there a couple of weeks ago, the water was slightly chilly when you first get in, but pretty comfortable after a minute or so.

We were in Akumal in mid January, and water temps were absolutely fine for swimming and snorkelling for prolonged periods. Not 'bathtub warm', but not chilly, at least for us New Englanders. I would imagine March would be slightly warmer still. After all, this part of Mexico is in the tropics!

trebex and zootsi - thanks for the info. Looks like I'll leave the wetsuit home.

I have a tendancy to always be cold and I was fine swimming in the ocean in Cancun the first week of Feb.

karens - thanks for your reply. I also have a tendency to be cold. Good to hear that the water should be okay.

Just wanted to add that while the first stop on a snorkeling trip is usually comfortable at that time of year, you're always colder on the second stop. While a wetsuit isn't necessary, you might be more comfortable if you do a lot of diving.

We went in November, which is the "rainy season", and it wasn't too bad.

we just got back - water is great, only slightly cool at first then perfect after a minute, had a lot of wave action however, which was fun for beach boogie boarding but made snorkeling poor, may change in a month however
