Water levels in March?
What are are water levels in March (as it affects whitewater rafting)?

Uh, where? Lain America is quite a lage region and the answer probably depends at least somewhat on the specific place within that region :-)

Whoops -- sorry. I'm interested in the Pacuare River in Costa Rica. Will water levels be low or high?
Thanks, Laurie |
The Pacuare has enough water to run year round, but March is the lowest level all year with approx. 800 cf/s (compare with 3,400 cf/s in November and December)

Would that mean that in March it would be more of a level III than a level IV? (which would be just fine with me!)

We rafted the Pacuare in September 04. We have rafted several times in USA. Rapids ratings - as you indicate - vary with water levels, etc. There /may/ be some IV rapids on the Pacuare, but I'm going to say we reached level III max. Not at all disappointed.
Be sure to bring a waterproof camera or a nicer camera in a dry bag. Earlier, I posted a suggestion list of items to bring. This post, and others related to the river rafting experiences can be Found Using the "Search" Function of this Site. The Pacuare lives up to its reputation for its scenic beauty. - Veronica |
The water level is going to be variable at any time. We have been in Feb when the water was really low. Last time we went around the same time and the water was extremely high (it had been closed to rafting just a few days before). It is just very unpredictable. March should be the lowest month but things can change.
