Hopefully others can help you more with the process from Chan Chich, which I haven't done. The boat trip to Lamanai up the New River that is most common starts and ends in Orange Walk town so if you're doing it from the airport you're simply adding an hour or 2 on the road each way to get to and from OW.

Thanks hope...I knew the trip from the airport included a good bit of time on the road, but I wasn't sure if the boat part from CC would be about the same experience as the trip from the airport. Everyone says it's really amazing, so I hate to miss it.

You travel by road from CC to Lamanai, but you can ask CC about organizing a river boat trip on the New River and New River Lagoon if you like. CC has a much smaller lagoon on property for canoeing.

Any river tour from Chan Chich would likely originate very close to the route taken between BZE and Lamanai, namely near Orange Walk. They would just approach the put in from opposite directions by road.

The New River runs roughly North/South, though. If they were to include a boat tour, they would have to put in either North, or possibly south of Lamanai. Given that the only road access to Chan Chich is via Orange Walk to the North, it seems likely that it's there where they would put in for a boat trip.

Forgot to add::the New River is narrower north of Lamanai than south, so the wildlife sightings along the river bank would be better in the north, which again would make it more likely that they would put in there for a boat tour.
In all honesty, if the river tour and visiting Lamanai ruins are a high priority, I would recommend the Lamanai Outpost Lodge--you have virtually unlimited access to the entire reserve while staying there.

Katie,
I got this information directly from Daryl at Chan Chich.
"Daytrips to Lamanai Ruins - $300 for 1-2 & $50pp over 2. Day trip including river boat and Lamanai visit - $350 for 1-2 & $50pp over 2. + 12.5% tax. Not part of Discovery package."
RAC,
I'd like to stay at Lamanai as well as Chan Chich, but I don't think I'd be able to stay at LOL more than 2 nights. So I'm trying to figure out what my options are.
