Volcanogirl Survives!
Hi, all - just wanted to let you know we made it through the storm. No power at home still, but we've got it at the office, so I'm able to give you a survival message. We didn't have water for a few days and have huge trees down all over the neighborhood, still millions without power, but we're doing okay. Neighbors helping neighbors and other good stuff; we're okay. I miss you guys and my fodors!

I'm glad to hear you're safe. I hope things get up and running for you soon.
|
Maybe you should get on down to CR while the repairs are being made. . .makes sense to me!
|
I feel a little bit like I'm in CR right now. No AC, and I'm wearing my headlamp around the house! Seems much more fun in CR though!
|
Glad to hear you're ok.
We flew out of St. Louis home to NY early sunday AM, never saw so much rain in my life, it was blowing sideways, was very surprised the plane took off on time after a very white-knuckle 12 mile drive to the airport! Anyway, hope you get power back at home soon! |
I'm so glad to hear that you weathered the storm, VG!
Doesn't being without power stink? We were without for about 4-5 days after Jeanne in 2004. The most frustrating thing was driving home after going out to dinner in a neighborhood that had electricity and seeing that houses in my development had lights on. We were so excited until we turned onto my street and could see that only half the development had power restored. Everyone on my block was still plunged into darkness and it took another day until our power was back on! Yuck!! I don't have much cause to complain though, because I had 2 co-workers who lost their roofs. We were breathing a big sigh of relief when Ike stayed south of Florida and headed into the Gulf. I'm really sorry he came to see you, however! Hang in there. Life will get back to normal. |
Glad to hear you are okay! Being without power must be so frustrating! Amazing how much we use it!

Atta girl !!! volcanogirl.
I knew you would be fine ,but just in case...I was ready to come down.!:) Percy |
Thanks, everybody! The apartment complex near us has power, and the cul-de-sac has power, but no such luck for us. I look longingly at their lights as I drive by! Alicia hit us when I was a kid, and we didn't have power for 9 days. The houses across the street never lost it. Life ain't fair! But our neighbors let us run extension cords across the street!
Percy, if you have a chainsaw, you would be the most popular man in my neighborhood! It's nice to come to work to get some normalcy, charge up cell phones, etc. but the smell is so bad they have us wearing surgical masks - that can't be good! |
Glad to hear you made it thru vg. Excellent idea with the headlamp. Stay safe :)
|
Thanks, tully. Our power did come back on and then went off again this morning. Someone was cutting branches and hit a power line. I was getting the shakes from missing my Fodor's friends - it's back on for now - yes! Keeping the head lamp handy...
