Villa del Sol (Ixtapa) vs. Villa Amor (PV)

My fiancee and I think we have narrowed our honeymoon destination down to 2 hotels on the coast, one in Ixtapa and one in PV. They both look very nice, but the dilemma is would we want to stay in the least expensive room in the critically acclaimed Villa del Sol, or the most deluxe room in the Villa Amor (with private pool, etc)? The location is of course important too - we are going in August, so is Ixtapa therefore a safer bet? Otherwise, we are neutral on which area we go to. Thanks for your help!

I don't know either hotel.

In August both locations will be very hot and humid with some rain possible.

If you want to do some siteseeing outside your resort, or shopping, local restaurants, nightlife, etc. then PV has *much* more to offer.

Villa del Sol is in Zihuatanejo, not Ixtapa. There's a big difference. I didn't like Ixtapa at all, whereas Zihuatanejo is a really nice town. It's a lot smaller than Puerto Vallarta. There are lots of good restaurants, some really nice shopping.

Actually I spent my honeymoon in Puerto Vallarta, but that was 16 years ago!

I vote for Zihua. To me, the entire experience at Villa will be more gracious than staying in a grand room in a less grand hotel.Zihua is more romantic.PV is more active and much busier.IMHO

You absolutely can't go wrong at La Casa Que Canta in Ziho, if your budget allows it.

Villa del Sol is now The Tides & has been for over 2 years. Very nice, expensive, high end resort on Playa La Ropa Zihua's whitest & most popular beach.
My personal choice on Zihua's bay would be Las Brisas del Mar (not to be confuse with Las Brisas, Ixtapa). Much less money & not so high end but with very nice large suites all with huge Balconies/patios with possibly the best view on Mexico's West Coast. Located on Play Madera a lovely but darker sand beach due to Volcanic erosion it is the heart of Zihua's famed "Gourmet Ghetto" with many fine restaurants plus just a short stroll on a lighted bay side walkway from El Centro & Playa Municipal with it's many fine cafés/shops/nightlife Etc.

Jokes on Me I guess. Got to check those dates. Evidently the owner (Robbie?) or someone close wanted to promote the other hotel.

heck that's OK stewbear, I was getting ready to chime in that Zijua was a better choice than Ixtapa or PV either one!
