valuables

Need opinions please. Do you think its fine just to keep your extra cash and credit cards in the safe provided in your hotel room or would you have the hotel keep it in their main safe? Maybe I am being to paranoid, but I keep reading about incidence of petty theft.

My friend (who travels to CR often) and I (frequenting Mexico) were actually just talking about this yesterday! I have never had any trouble with the room safes, although all that I ever leave in there are usually travelers checks (except for everything at night---while sleeping, I mean). I think that a lot of it has to do with where you stay, but you should be fine.

I agree with the statement that a bit depends on where u stay ..... We used the room safes with no problem , we only carried "just enough" cash for the day .

We've done that and had no problems, but now we tend to carry everything on us except our passports. We put it in 3-4 different places, however. My husband keeps a little cash, I'll carry some in my backpack, and if I have on those zip off pants with baggy zipper pockets, I'll keep credit cards and cash in there. Occasionally we'll use a money belt, but not often.

Generally, the safety deposit boxes provided are just that. There shouldn't be a problem with leaving everything in one.

Thanks everyone! Sounds like the consensus is the in room safes will be just fine. Our hotels: Si Como No, Lost Iguana and Peace Lodge.
