Uxmal Lodging
 

Has anyone recently stayed at any of the lodgings adjacent to the ruins at Uxmal? We are interested in the more moderately priced places.

You can read my review of the Mission Uxmal on Tripadvisor.com. We spent two nights there and never had hot water. Unless you are really on a budget, I'd stay at the Hacienda Uxmal.

Will you have a car? We had a great stay at Mision Uxmal. It is about a mile from the ruins, but a beautiful resort with great views of the pyramid. (and we did have hot water all the time). Nice restaurant on site.

I have to disagree about the restaurant at Mision Uxmal. They serve cafeteria style and there is no ambiance whatsoever in the place. Most of the time, it was filled with bus groups who would lunch or dine there as part of their day trip to the ruins.

The pool was nice and the view from the upstairs rooms was lovely, but the whole place is in dire need of refurbishing.

The place to eat is under the huge palapa at the restaurant right next to the parking lot of the ruins. It's part of the Lodge at Uxmal but anyone can dine there. Breakfasts and dinners were excellent there and not much more expensive than the restaurant at the hotel.

We are leaning toward Hacienda Uxmal or the Archeological Villas. I'm having trouble finding much information about the villas.

Hacienda Uxmal is wonderful. The Archaeological Villas are run by Club Med. Maybe that will help you get more info.

Stay at the Hacienda Uxmal. The Club Med Villas Arquelogicas is filled with bus groups from France.

We stayed at the one in Coba once. The place was beautiful but the rooms had windows that would not open and the stench from the cigarette smoke was very offensive. There were no non-smoking rooms.

One of the problems at Mision Uxmal is that while there are patio doors in the room, there were no screens. So, leaving the door open at night was not an option. Also, there was no furniture on the patio/balcony, so you couldn't sit and enjoy the view. Needing to have the underpowered air-conditioner on all the time was unpleasant.
