US Citizen leaving Mexico without Passport

I am a US citizen without a passport (and can't get one) and am going to enter Mexico, probably at Reynosa. Once there I plan to fly to Cancun for a week vacation. From reading things online it seems I won't have much problem entering, but may have problems getting back in to the US. Can anyone with recent experience, or at least first hand knowledge, suggest ways I can increase my chances of success both getting in and getting out? Such as where to cross, documents that might be helpful such as birth certificate, driver’s license, bribing, etc. Also once across the border I plan to fly to Cancun. Anything I should be prepared for regarding getting on a plane without a passport?

You have to have a passport to travel. Period.

You want help to break both Mexican and US laws?

Get a passport - if you 'can't' you may have bigger issues than how to sneak across the border and back.

It's not going to happen without a passport. If you do it, you do it illegally.

Yes. Not being allowed to get on a plane.

My guess is that this plan will end badly.
