Unique Hotels within 39 minutes or less from SJO

I am reposting this question one last time just in case I missed one... We are looking for our last night hotel. Want to stay under $150 a night. I don't want to be in San Jose after talking to my Tico friends. I would love a view and a safe nieghborhood. It can be as far as 30 minutes away. Any suggestions? Thanks!!!!

Disregard the "39 minutes". I meant to say 30 minutes.

Are you coming back from the Pacific Coast or Arenal? If so, Vista del Valle is on the way. The view is fantastic. The website doesn't do it justice. Xandari is nice, too, but it might be out of your price range.

In the center of Alajuela, Hotel Los Volcanes, situated in an old house that has been redone. From here you can easily walk around town and do some shopping, banking and have a choice of restaurants. Outside of Alajuela, Xandari and Las Orquideas for upper class and Pura Vida or Hotel Buena Vista are both nice and less expensive.

I forgot - another one is the Airport B&B, just outside of Alajuela and about 15-20 minutes from the airport. Check on it at www.bed-and-breakfastcr.com

We spent several night at Orquideas this summer, one night at a time, for our gaddings-about. I wouldn't classify it anywhere near to "upper class". More like upper budget-low moderate. For us, the $69 per night rooms worked out nicely, and we always love the Marilyn Monroe bar and think the food is good. Excellent breakfast.

Vista del Valle a bit more upscale--we really liked it here, great views! Used to be about $150, not sure now.

We also really like Hotel Grano de Oro in San Jose. I know, I know, but it IS a beautiful hotel with outstanding food, and in a nice area of San Jose.

We liked the Orquideas Inn. Superior room--$99 a night--gives you plenty of space and nice views of Volcanoes. Grounds are nice too.

Even though it's a city hotel, Grano de Oro is very nice; they have a rooftop garden with hot tubs, neat architecture, great service, and a wonderful restaurant on site. If you can get a deal at Xandari, I agree that that would be a great spot.

You will love Casa Cristal. Also a JR Suite at the Beacon. Both in Escazu. Eat dinner at Bachus. Call both to get better rates.

I love hotel Bougainvillea. It is a bit off the beaten path as far as the airport is concerned, but is within your 30 min. request. The hotel is on a beautifully maintained property with trails, and amazing flowers. It also has a good restaurant. Check it out!
