Turubari -- worth it?
For those of you who have been here did think this was a worthwhile destination? We are travelling with a multi-generational group and spending the night at La Finca. I had initially thought it would give our diverse party time to explore different experiences conveniently and economically. But, now I wonder if we would be better off taking individual tours such as the canopy one in Arenal and then heading off early to spend more time in MA. Any opinions?

Hi Misha2,
We were at Turubari with a multi-generational group too, so I can give you some insight. DH, Myself and DD (11) did the ziplines, while MIL (70) and DS (9 and too light for the "Superman" zip line) did the guided nature walk and tour of the butterfly habitat. MIL, a nature lover, really enjoyed it. Son was bored stiff, especially since we had already toured the butterfly gardens at La Paz. We all met for the buffet lunch, which was very good. We then all did the maze and the horseback ride, which everyone enjoyed. We also spent one day at Manuel Antonio, which to me was plenty. Turubari seemed much cooler and shadier, which was easier on MIL. MA, on the other hand, was very hot and humid. The wildlife was definitely the best part of MA. Make sure you hire a guide to see as much as possible. Since we live along a very nice stretch of shoreline in California, beach time really wasn't our goal in Costa Rica. Hope this helps. Have a great trip! You're going to love La Finca and Neta. (Arbel was out of town when we visited, so we didn't have the pleasure of meeting him.) |
Thanks Ivk.
The shadier, cooler part sold me. I wonder if both my kids will not meet the weight requirement. But, since this will be the only butterfly garden we visit that should be fine. Is there also a weight requirement for the zip line? I read that you also did the Skytrek zipline. How do you compare the two? |
Hi Misha2,
My daughter didn't meet the weight requirement for the Superman zip-line either, but she was close, so they put a long sandback on her back after strapping her in. (I know it sounds awful, but she really wanted to do it!) She weighed about 90-something at the time, so maybe the minimum weight is 100? My son was only 60-something so that was way too light. I don't think there is a minimum weight requirement for the regular ziplines. We actually did the ziplines at the Arenal Paraiso, not Skytrek. The main thing I remember about the Turubari zip lines were the hanging "sidewalks" between the trees. Those were a bit more nerve-racking than the actual ziplines :) . |
Ivk,
Sorry I must have misread. I thought you had done the skytrek. My kids are only about 50 something pounds. So, they won't do the superman cable. I'm sure the the ziplines will be exciting enough. What are the hanging sidewalks? Also, would it be feasible to leave Turubari by 1 or 2 o'clock if we get there in the morning? |
