We are super excited, about 22 days until we leave!
The photo fo the room they gave us seems small - and it says the bed is a king but the photos makes everything look small but I am suspending all judgement until I get there.
I have not spent Christmas in Tulum before. Anyone know if they have Posadas like they do on the West coast? Anything happening in tulum for the day itself? I imagine it's pretty quiet.
Also any tips on how to avoid getting ripped off by taxi drivers picking us up at Cancun airport greatly appreciated. It's about a 90 minutes drive? Or more?

Wow! Checked out some of the above links and hotels. They look so charming .... Similar to places we have stayed in in Costa Rica and pacific Mexico. Our trips are planned very last minute, and the destination is determined by availability and$$(selloffairfares.com) My question is. 1. Is the beach typically suitable for children to swim mid January?(should I look at a hotel on a particular calmer cove)
2. Any of these sweet places have small pools so kids could cool off if ocean is too rough?

You will love Tulum...since you loved Yelapa. The only hotels with pools are Ana y Jose, Las Ranitas and Suenos Tulum - all out of budget...they even charge for kids age 2+ $40/night each...really outrageous!!!

I've seen the water change w/in a day's time from glass to good boogie boarding waves. It's so hard to say.

Akumal has it's protected bays (Akumal and Half Moon) that are always calm. I've snorkled Akumal Bay in a rain storm and most people got out because they thought it was rough...just a little choppy, hardly anything to worry about.


Welovemex - I haven't taken a cab in a long time (always rent a car), but I think the cabs are regulated from the airport with set rates that are non-negotiable. It's highly unlikely that you'll get ripped-off. It's 90 minutes and about $90usd.

Thank-You for responding Pepper, I'll still check those places out you mention. There seem to be SO many rustic little cabana style places... its hard to know what to look at! I'll go check the ones that appeal most to me and see what you think.
