Tulum Hotels- Cottages right on beach

Looking to stay in a cottage/ beach hut right on the beach in Tulum. Not looking for any big resort but just the nicest cottage where you can walk out the door and the sand and ocean are right there.

Somebody had recommended HOTEL MAMBO in Tulum. Any scoop on this place or any more upscale places.

Thanks for any help here.

We loved Los Lirios. It is a group of 8 or so thatched buildings, each with 4 rooms, 2 lower, 2 upstairs. The rooms are quite private. They classify the rooms as "garden view" "ocean view" and ocean front" If you choose Los Lirios, pass on the garden view. The view from our ocean view upper room, E3 (the uppers are best) was spectacular. The rooms are air conditioned. There is a very decent included breakfast too.

You can see pictures of Los Lirios, our room and its beach that I posted on Flickr titled Mexico 2007. www.flickr.com/photos/basingstoke2/collections

You can also read my trip report describing Los Lirios and Tulum by clicking my name and scrolling back to 2007.

There are dozens of places that would meet your requirements. Los Lirios is nice, one of the few with 24/7 electricity. Tierras del Sol is another one we've been to - a bit more primitive than Los Lirios. Did you check out locogringo.com?

For what it may be worth, we got an excellent price on Los Lirios from an agency called Price Travel. Rereading your original post, the Ocean Front rooms are right on the beach. The Ocean View rooms are a little bit further back - beach access is by a sand path- under a minute walk. If you looked at the photos, the view is from an upper Ocean View room and there is a picture of the path.

Does anyone know of any beach huts in Isla Mujeres?
