I think it will be a toss up. The two are not far apart at all (perhaps a couple miles?). Having said that I think that might mean Trogon is a couple miles closer to the airport.
You'll probably find more people on this board are familiar with Savegre than Trogon (including me), but I've seen good reports of Trogon as well. Savegre has maybe 10 ? cabins - all pretty close together. I believe Trogon has similar layout. I can heartily recommend Savegre. It's a lovely area and property owned by the Tico Chacon family. They also have orchard business there, so lovely orchards around. Several generations involved. Marino Chacon is an excellent birding guide. You should arrange to go out one morning with him. Some cabins are newer/snazzier than others. We stayed in a newer super nice one with a fireplace and sunken tub. Meals are included if you want and you'd probably want, as other meal options in this very rural area are very limited. The food in the dining room is good enough, though nothing special. It's a beautiful drive from San Jose for the most part. . . I wouldn't make decision based on distance from airport, because it's insignificant. Read up on both places and decide which sounds like it fits your group best. But, really, doubt you could go wrong with either place. |
I agree with glover. The two are very close together. Trogon is at a higher elevation so will be slightly cooler. When we stayed at Sevegre we needed the heater at night.

The grounds are very nice at Trogon. The people are great at Savegre. I don't think you will have a bad time at either place.
