Mark,

Whether the purpose of your trip is fun or business, stay in Recoleta. Recoleta is the best option hands down. It is the kind of place you can stroll the streets and look for nice restaurants/shops on foot, and also see the major attractions.

Do not spend two weeks in Buenos Aires. 5/6 days is the ideal stay. You WILL want to do a lot of shopping. Everything is very cheap after the devaluation: you see tourists loaded with shopping bags everywhere.

Day trips: go to San Antonio de Areco for the ?gaucho feeling? (120 km. from Buenos Aires), or Colonia in Uruguay (45 min. on hydrofoil).
Must sees: Visit the north (Salta and Jujuy are overwhelming), Iguazú Falls, and the South. These places are reached after a two hours flight from the domestic airport.

October and November are the best months wheatherwise -mid 20s- About safety, you're not likely to have any problem if you take the precautions that you would take in any other big city: watch for pickpockets in tourist sites and do not walk alone at night in non-central places.

Please contact me for further info.

Maria
