trip to agrentina
 

I am planning a 2 week trip. I will atay 1 full week in Buenos Aires with a friend and then I would like to go to Mendoza and or skiing. This would be in either late July or early Aug. I love wine and love the wine regions is us. Does Mendoza have wineries where you can wine taste. How long do you reccomened staying. I like to stroll and do wine tours. I am a beginner skier but love the ski atmosphere. Is the ski reorts there charming and somewhere one would like to stay to ski and shop? Which ski resort is the best for the ski apre and the whole village thing. I like the resorts where you can walk everywhere, even to ski. Will I need to book in advance??

oh and I know I can fly into Mendoza from BA but how will I get to ski resorts?

Spent 3 days in Mendoza Aug 2004...Cintia of WOWARGENTINA set up the trip and arranged for us to visit an architect at his vineyard for lunch and a tour. It was a wonderful day,great food and a once in a lifetime experience.We also went to a day spa that had been a vineyard and they also have a wonderful restaurant...I cannot think of the names but can look them up if you are interested..Maybe someone else on this forum will fill in the blanks.

Whatever you do in the wine region, make sure to plan it in advance - whether it's through an agent or contacting the wineries you want to visit. While most Mendoza wineries have tasting rooms, they are often by appointment only, as opposed to just wandering in.

You can fly or bus to the ski country from either Mendoza or BsAs.

do you know how far the flight and/or drive wold be to go from mendoza to the ski area? Of course assumung the ski area is in one place

It's not really all in one spot, I know people who head for various places, though the most popular one I've heard about (I'm not a skier myself) is the Bariloche area. If you're flying, I'd guess it's around an hour, driving, no idea what the roads are like.

Mendoza has two main places for skiing: Los Penitentes and Las Leñas. You can Google them for more info. Las Leñas is a large complex, just for skiing. You can buy an all-inclusive package.

Bariloche is also great for skiing, but is located much further South.

Your post indicating you "love the ski atmosphere" suggests Las Leñas is what you want.

We have been to Mendoza April 2005 for a week. The city is very nice with parks, trees, restaurants and nice architecture. We stayed at the NH Hotel wich is very well located. Christian at the hotel arranged for us a day visit by private taxi:
1- a winery in the morning with the Aconcagua and the Andes in the backround, what a view! The wine tasting was good.
2-The lunch and afternoon visit was organized at Zuccardy winery. The lunch was a BBQ on a terrace with a beautiful malbec Q 2003. The cabernet sauvignon is also exquisite. They also produce the Santa Julia series wich is excellent but we prefered the Q (more expensive). In fact, we do recommend the hotel and the 2 wineries specially Zuccardy winery. We visited the cellar and producing outlet at Zuccardy + wine tasting. We did not get to visit the cellar of the first winery but the wine tasting was good and the visit of the wine making instructive. We will be back in Mendoza for the wine harvest and festival in March.Enjoy!
