Transportation in Buenos Aires

Hi!
Is there any shuttle service we can use instead of taxi (hopefully cheaper), for transportation from a cruise ship to our hotel, and later form a hotel to the airport? Thank you

Things are cheap as it is right now in BA if you have dollars or other hard currency. I would just go with a local taxi. They drive like crazy, as fast and as daring as possible. Enjoy.

Email or fax the hotel - they can arrange for a safer (than taxi) private car to meet you and later do the airport run.
There are several threads with lots of info if you do a search on transportation in BA.

BA taxis are very inexpensive. The problem with getting one from the ship is that there is a set-price system. When disembarking last Sunday, we paid US$6 for a taxi ride to our hotel. The meter read just over 4 pesos, or not much more that US$1. Some people were skipping the official taxi line inside the fence in front of the terminal and going ouside to get a taxi; presumably they paid meter prices.

I agree with Charl that you might want to get the hotel to pick you up. We arranged to do this from the airport to our hotel and as first time visitors to the city, it was a safe and convenient way to go.

What are some of the hotels that will pick you up or take you to the airport? Is there a charge? And where exactly do cruise ships dock? Thanks in advance for any information

I imagine just about any hotel would be able to arrange transportation. Even our little $30/night hotel (Hotel Frossard: cute little place in 19C mansion) did (for the airport).

The cruise terminal is located off Av. Ramon S. Castillo near Av. de los Inmigrantes, a few blocks NE of the Retiro stations. If you go to www.mapcity.com/baires, click on "Buscar direccion", then enter "ramon s castillo" into the Nombre field and "de los inmigrantes" into the intersección field and click on BUSCAR, it will show you the part of town. I have that part of a map that the BA tourist people gave us scanned if you want me to e-mail it to you.
