tours of the pantanal

I've been fishing for some info for a while now and haven't had much luck in the chat rooms. I want to know if anyone has toured the pantanal, and which tour companies you have used. All the tours on here seem to be to Machu Pichu. Help?

There is an excellent trip report (one of the very best I've seen on this forum) about atravelynn's trip to the Pantanal. I'm sure if you search for Pantanal it will pop up. If not, maybe she'll see this and top it for you.

She saw EVERYTHING.

Hi, I haven't been able to find her trip report, but she's a frequent visitor to the Africa forum, so you may want to ask about the Pantanal there -- she likely has a wealth of info, and can better direct you to her trip report.

I've seen you around Fodors on the various forums because I remember that name.

This is the link. The Pantanal part starts about 1/4 of the way through the report and is shown with bold titles.

I did the northern part of the Pantanal and would certainly recommend it. You can also do the more heavily visited southern part and stay at the world famous Caiman Lodge. That stay is fairly easy to arrange. I would consider going there too on a return and I do have a return trip in the making. Probably a couple of them.

Though I didn't choose them, International Expeditions has a nice Pantanal trip at a good price that stays at the Caiman Lodge.

If mammals are of interest to you, then avoid going when the moon is full. If it is mainly bird watching that is your interest, which is spectacular, then anytime is fine.

Feel free to pose additional questions here via my email.
