Tortuguero National Park - in January (not turtle season)

Is it worth going to Tortuguero this time of year? I love turtles and would love to see some - it does not matter to me if they are nesting as long as they are still around.

I've been both with and without and I think the area is so beautiful and unique that it's worth going either way. There's a recent thread on this with lots of replies if you do a search.

If you like the idea of getting out on the canals and seeing a lot of wildlife, then I would go for it. I don't think you're all that likely to see turtles, but there are monkeys and some good birding. We thought it was a neat area.

Definitely worth going in January - no turtles, but plenty of other wildlife that time of year. I'm going in February and can't wait!

We book through Modesto and Fran Watson and stay at Laguna Lodge www.tortuguerocanals.com
